May 23, 2005 - The Adelphi - Hull, UK
With the extra license plate, that doesn't match our back license plate, now screwed onto the front of the van, for the first time during a border crossing the officials did not request to search the back compartment. We were pulled over, however, and had to wait until all the other vehicles drove off The Pride of Hull before we were interviewed by a nice young man about our reasons for being in the UK. Michaela's address in Hessle was on the landing card, and it turned out that the young customs officer also "stays in Hessle," so we were through without any trouble. Arrived at Michaela's around 9 and she was home but headed to work shortly after we pulled into her back parking area, of which I am quite jealous, as such space is elusive in San Francisco.
Got to the club around 6:30 and Paul was there to sound check. We looked through the peephole in the pool table/bus front room to check what was going on in the main hall of the venue. Hung out with Deon and Michaela over pints of beer. Our set followed a French man who played echoing guitar and after us a charming Spanish student played a song dedicated to his sister.
