April 18, 2004 - Larimer Lounge - Denver, CO
We drove through southern Wyoming, where the only signs were for fireworks for sale. The gas tank was on empty and we were in the middle of nowhere. We pulled over to what once was a gas station, but the pumps were covered with heavy rugs. There was a store and a woman was inside with two men. There were lots of dusty glass figurines for sale. The woman told us, "Larry, in the back, might have a can of gas for sale." But he didn't. We made it back to Laramie and got some gas. As the sun set we reached Fort Collins, which was a nice town with lots of restaurants featuring outdoor seating. We decided to eat at a place called Armadillo because it had lots of lights on its patio. The waitress strongly encouraged us to go to the nearby candy store and get candy apples. We went to Safeway instead and Chris bought and wore "Bobby Joe" teeth. Around 10:30 we got to Dan's brother's house in Louisville, CO, outside of Boulder. Callie had made nachos and a wonderful cake and we snacked and then went to sleep in the basement. The next morning I walked to downtown Louisville in the wind and back. We had lunch with Callie, Matt, and their two kids, Addie and Wyatt, in Boulder at a brew pub. At five we met with Katrina at Illegal Pete's, drank and ate, and then we drove to The Larimer Lounge just after 7. With a big gap of time before the show was supposed to start, we walked around the area near the club and there were bright lights on the corner of building that read "Jesus Saves." We returned to the club. The bartender put on Kill Bill Volume 1 on the TV and we watched that, but it was hard to hear it. The other bands loaded in, Matt and Callie arrived, Katrina and her fiance arrived, and the first band started. They passed around a cigarette on stage. We played and the band that played after us, Clemente, their songs are all about someone named Chess, as the singer explained from the stage.
