October 16, 2004 - Pianos - New York, NY

I set the alarm to wake up for the free continental breakfast croissant/bagel bar which was being held at the top of the building, on a slab of concrete with great views through the glass walls. The young man in charge of the bread supply showed us how to get up on the roof where it was windy. There wasn't any hot water...so icy cold, but the tile floor was heated. Around 1 p.m. Dan and I walked to Pianos, talked with Jasper, and then headed back into the hotel for our guitars, so we wouldn't have to try to push them through people later on. The first band, The Organ, drew me in and made me forget that I'd eaten a super cheesy crepe too quickly before their set. Dos Equis were on the house. The afternoon passed quickly and before I knew it Rob was outside and then it was our time to play. The Gibson guitar amps have more muscle than our Fenders it seemed, which was exciting. We hung out after the show for awhile and then got Thai food with Ani and Chris. My curry was more spicy than I'd have liked, but what can you do? After dinner, CG, Dan and I headed back to Pianos (CW returned there around 2 a.m.) and ran into Greg. CG had a half-marathon to run on Staten Island the next morning, so he went back to the hotel to prepare. Dan and I went upstairs with Jasper and there was baseball on the giant screen TV. When we got back to the hotel we left off all the lights and fell asleep with the curtains open and all the skyscraper, car, sign, building lights coming inside. It didn't matter that there weren't any towel racks.
