April 24, 2004 - Boogaloo - Brooklyn (Williamsburg), NY

We didn't wake up until after 2 p.m. Tonya had left to go see some documentaries and Rob, Dan and I had a lazy afternoon, went to a diner to have breakfast/lunch/dinner around 6 pm. We walked around Greenpoint, to the border with Williamsburg, saw the skyline as the sun went down. Rob has a video from college that he put on, with our bands playing. We watched that, and now Almost Famous is on. Chris and Chris are coming to pick us up to head to Boogaloo, where we are most likely going to play tonight. We were added onto the bill last minute and aren't sure of the load-in time or anything.

We got to Boogaloo around 9 and loaded our stuff into the tiny back room. There was a show that started in the Mexican restaurant next door to Boogaloo at 10 and an arrow directing people to Boogaloo at 12:30 a.m. or so for The Casual Dots. There were so many people around, mostly standing on the sidewalk smoking. Lots of boots over the jeans. I bought a toothbrush from a convenience store on Broadway, but they didn't have any earplugs. There was a cat in one of the stores, giving itself a bath by the tabloid paper display. There were no ladies around, only men. I went back to Boogaloo, called Christian and he gave me directions to Royal Oak, where he works. Dan, Mai, Chris W. and I took a cab there around 1 a.m. Chris G. was sleeping in a sleeping bag in the van, catching up for the time he spent running the Brooklyn half-marathon. It was great to see Christian, had been about a year. We stayed at Royal Oak until about 2, woke Chris G. up, and wondered what would happen, what time we would go on, what "after hours" would be like. I had a few beers. Mike said time was tight, and we'd have about 20 minutes to play before the party changed crowds. We set up as fast as we could after Wikkid played, and everything happened quickly: we played a song, Chris W. took off, I started to play "Drive," Chris W. returned. We played 4 songs all in all and then moved our gear through the sea of bodies to the van. I accidentally leaned on the record that was being spun and was embarrassed. Dan lost his phone. We got into the van. It was 5 a.m. Chris G. drove us to Rob's and Tonya was leaving for the march in DC. I fell asleep.
