April 23, 2004 - Pianos - New York, NY
It seemed to take forever to get into NYC. We got caught in traffic on the other side of the Holland Tunnel but got to Pianos by 7. We loaded in the equipment, Chris G. headed to Brooklyn, and Chris W., Dan and I ate in Pianos'the catfish tacos were so good. Afterwards, I was dying to walk around and move a little, so we walked in the rain and Mai met up with us too. Around 9 we got back to Pianos, had some drinks, and got set up sometime after 10. The glass door between the bar and the music room is amazing'it really cuts out the sound on either side. It was fun to play there'Jasper took some photos and I could see some familiar faces in the audience, Rob and Tom. Afterwards we loaded out our gear, Tom hopped in the van and directed us to a nearby parking lot in the rain where there were raised cars, and we hung out for awhile, saw some of The Debutantes' set and Argentine. Chris G. took off early because he had a half-marathon to run in the morning'insane, but true. Dan, Chris W., Mai and I hung out a few doors down from Pianos with Rob, Tonya, Tom, Emily and others. There was a giant blue couch. We left around 3 or so to get pizza slices and then took a cab back to Tonya and Rob's place in Greenpoint, stayed up talking until after four a.m. I got very confused at one point in the cab and found myself talking about washing meat. Rob said they didn't sell meat at Nicoletti's, which is true. Dan and I slept on a very comfy futon with a fan nearby. It was like summertime. I can't believe we drove here from Oakland. I forgot to take pictures in the p.m.
