April 21, 2004 - Bottom Lounge - Chicago, IL
We woke up at 7:30 after going to bed just before 4 a.m. The "full breakfast" was in the lobby but I was warned by Dan not to look in the silver heated trays at the eggs and meat, so I just had some cereal and a bagel, some juice. But maybe he tricked me into not eating the last of the eggs and sausage so he could have it??I drove us as far as Missouri and then Dan took over. Missouri is very green and there are a lot of adult video stores on the side of the highway. We're passing through The Ozarks as I write this. Are Ozarks rocks, trees, or hills? I don't know. There are some nice looking limestoney rocks.
We got into Chicago around 7 pm and picked up the keys to Susan's apartment, which she and Jake are so kind to have us stay at even though Susan's in Cuba and Jake's with his grandparents a few blocks away. After we got the keys we drove past the hotel where Oprah's guests stay and headed to the club. It's in a cool part of town, with lots of restaurants and shops. There was a fabulous Indian buffet across the street where I ate too much but it was wonderful food. So much nicer than Steak and Shake, though that wasn't too bad. We walked around under the El Train and then back to the club where Conscious Pool had started their set. There were 5 bands and we each had a half-hour set except the last band. It was a lot of fun to play The Bottom Lounge'the sound there is excellent, real rock. I went to Walgreens in between sets and talked on the phone to Heather, bought a thank you card for Susan, and a tiny toothpaste to keep in my purse. After the show we drove to Susan's apartment, loaded all our gear inside for safe-keeping, and passed out. Now we're doing laundry while Chris G. picks up some new stickers from Kinkos and some breakfast for us. Wheatie, Susan and Jake's cat, is talking to us, telling us we'd better get headed to Ohio.
