March 14, 2004 - Gypsy Tea Room, The - Dallas, TX

3/15/04 Chris Groves is behind the wheel directing us to Austin. The scenery has become green, at last. We ate breakfast at a Waffle House just a few minutes ago, sat at the bar and watched the cooking, frying, scrambling. The only disappointment was that they had air hand dryers in the bathrooms, not paper towels.

Last night was a lot of fun, especially after the 10-hour drive and sudden realization that we were in the Central Time Zone, and an hour of driving time had disappeared. We just made it to the club in time, after hours of driving through darkness. Film School got to the Gypsy Tea Room before us and let them know we'd be late. When we saw the tall buildings of Dallas all lit us it was exciting'a big city again. The people who work at the Gypsy are great'helping us move our gear and everything like in Duran Duran's video, Sing Blue Silver. There wasn't a big crowd, but the people who were there were enthusiastic and bought CDs. The Gypsy is a really cool place. Film School played an excellent set and I stood right in front. We hung out in the parking lot afterwards, a nerf football flying around and landing in random spots, as we counted with our eyes the added square feet in area that the FS van has over our mini-van. We said goodbye after giving Greg some Kettle Chips to snack on. I offered them to Jason but he said something which I agree to be true: they are gourmet chips but seem to have more grease than other chips. We drove south, though the freeway is called the 35 East, until we found Best Western Decoto, across the highway from The Waffle House. The nice man at the counter gave us the AAA rate and we passed out almost instantly, a movie starring Peter Fonda on HBO sending us into unconsciousness.
