May 4, 2005 - The Windmill - London, UK
Went around Saxmundam this morning to pick up some supplies (masking tape to roll tshirts, an ever-useful Sharpie pen, and stamps). Caffeine, unfortunately, is in short supply. I now know why I didn't see a soul outside when we arrived yesterday ' there seem to be only 5 people in this town under 60! Very weird. We quickly leave before anyone starts chanting 'One of Us.'
Our show tonight is in Brixton, an area of London that people have variously described to us as 'edgy', 'dangerous' and 'scary'. I think I'd compare it to the Mission or something ' a place that might look rough on the outside but is relatively harmless to those staying out of harm's way. We got our first taste of Indian food today, and it was yummmmy! All of our dishes were sweeter than their analogues in America, and not as spicy. But hopefully we'll have opportunities to taste more to see whether this was an isolated phenomenon or a cuisinal norm.
Show is a lot of fun. We play with two bands from Nottingham, St. Joan and Plans & Apologies, both really good. Beer is expensive.
