October 21, 2006 - DB's Imperial College Union - London, UK

Sheetal made us egg scramble for breakfast as the sun came and went through their large living room window at the New River Village. The development is brand new and looks, as Jonathan described, like the model rooms displayed at Ikea. It's like a few buildings from Sweden exist in Hornsey. After brunch we headed out into the rain to a wine bar in Crouch End around noon for a mid-day drink to keep warm. Chris and Chris picked us up near the clocktower and we dropped off our things at the hotel before continuing on in the insane London traffic to the Imperial College, London, in Kensington.

The student union venue is next door to the Royal Albert Hall, a majestic circular building. We passed it on the way to dinner with Torkel, though he'd already eaten and had apple pie with custard for dessert. Dan and I enjoyed jacket potatoes with baked beans and I memorized the recipe to recreate them at home.

One of the coolest things about the Imperial College student union is the DJ/lights controller booth that appears to be made of alumnium. I played a tiny Vox amp that reminded me of my Peavy amp in college, whose demise came about when Dan's apartment caught on fire. Dan used George's amp. Matt, Paul and Claire (aka 'A Badge of Friendship') put on a very cool night, not to mention they make great posters!

After the show we rolled back to the hotel in Islington, tucked the van through the back gate where G had arranged free parking for us. We saw another splitter van parked back there and the band linked to that splitter were in the lobby bar sipping beverages at that late hour. It wasn't entirely unlike when Bill and Ted see themselves in the different time wrinkle, except there was no lady in that band and they were frowning but we were all smiles with the parking score and fun just had.
