October 17, 2006 - The Head of Steam - Newcastle, UK

Newcastle is grand white stone buildings with tall windows. When we're in a city we've played before, I pray for the the deja vu to assist in finding the venue and where to park the van. After the sound/guitar/feedback incident in Wales and being rescheduled to play the Monday night midnight hour in Manchester, I think each of us was ready for something marvelous to happen.
Michael bought 4 pizzas for dinner before the show: margarita, chicken, veggie, and pepperoni. After eating we walked around the city and discovered that Newcastle has a Chinatown. Vague plans were made to have dim sum the next morning (but we overslept).
Spraydog started off the evening and I heard Yo La Tengo and My Bloody Valentine and Eric's Trip in their excellent set. We'll play with them again in London Friday. The Head of Steam was filling up and most of the people there had dark brown hair, so I felt quite at home. Sefelt rocked the house next and then we went on. The stage lights didn't cook us like in Manchester but it got very hot and I had such a fun time playing the songs in the set and playing the encore and I never wanted to leave except for the fact that we were being put up at a very Euro Travelodge nearby where we watched part of the The Money Pit on TV while sipping Marks & Spencer nightcap red wine.
