April 26, 2004 - Legion of Doom - Columbus, OH
I woke up at 8 and then again at 10, took a shower and woke everyone else up. Matt had already taken off for work. It was raining outside and started to rain more heavily after we began loading our gear out of Matt's and into the van. Chris G. drove through the rain, got us to a Bob's Big Boy/Starbucks where we ate food off a 1984 menu. The salad bar was all ice berg, carrot slivers, etc. and it had meatloaf and macaroni and cheese too. My mom called to say that Fayetteville, Arkansas, is flooded. I assured her that we had 2 days before going there, that evaporation would occur between now and then. My brother called to say that the flooding hadn't made the front page of any of his news sources; we were clear. We just passed under the "Welcome to Ohio" sign. Everything is really green.
We got to the Legion of Doom, a big house in Columbus, around 8:30 after taking a couple of wrong turns. Jen and Eric of The Schande directed us to Ninja Tacos, which is hidden inside Caf?? Bourbon, no sign outside. The guy at the register looked up when I Dan and I approached to order and said, "You're playing the Legion tonight." We looked perplexed. "I saw you on your poster. I had to rip it down, because we have shows here too, but I recognize you." Dan, Chris and Chris got ninja tacos and I got a ninja burrito and we drank, as Jen advised us to, since the show would be non-alcoholic. Cold beer in a chilled stein is heaven. There was a liquor store next door and Dan bought some Budweiser and Chris got Mike's Hard Lemonade for after the show. We played after The Sweethearts and before The Schande. Right after The Schande began, a fuse blew, but it was fixed in a minute. After the show Jason from Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea split a drumstick in two on the front porch. Chris W. slept on the stage and Dan and I slept in the audience area, near the giant furnace. Chris G. slept upstairs, next to Luke's litterbox. I woke to Dan's cell phone's alarm song around 8:45. Chris and Chris went to a few cafes to find internet access to do some work at and Dan and I cruised Columbus, went back to the house to load up our gear. The drumstick from the night before was on top of a worm. The Schande are heading out on tour today'we'll meet up with them in San Francisco for our show together on May 5th.
